What Does a Toner Do for Your Face?

What Does a Toner Do for Your Face?
A facial toner helps remove surface cells, residue from soap, impurities and excess oils.  It is not meant to take the place of a cleanser, but it does help your skin appear clearer.  The cleaner your skin is kept, the less likelihood of having blemishes, acne and breakouts.  Facial toners are also called astringents.

Benefits of Facial Toner
When skin pores are not opened, cleaned and tightened back, they lead to unhealthy skin.  Overall, the benefits of a facial toner include:
  • Cleaning, tightening pores
  • Improved skin tone
  • To balance and restore the pH of your skin
  • Helps cell turnover, allowing new cells to surface
  • Reduces oil secretion
  • Improves blood circulation
Best Toner for Oily Skin - what not to use
Many toners include mostly alcohol and water.  The alcohol dries the skin and may make it seem like it's drying out blemishes.  This may not be a good thing.  If the alcohol amount is too high, it can worsen the situation with production of more oil and higher breakouts.  It can also be irritating to sensitive skin.  Other irritating ingredients in many toners include, salicylic acid and witch hazel.  Salicylic acid is the active ingredient in aspirin and known for its anti-inflammatory properties.  When used regularly on your skin, it may lead to skin irritation and allergies.

Alcohol Free Toner

An alcohol free toner from Cleure along with the gentle exfoliating scrub are your best tips for a more radiant skin free of blemishes.  Of course, you also need the right and best cleanser to use before the toner to remove makeup and daily impurities.

Choose a cleanser and toner for sensitive skin, free of salicylic acid, sodium lauryl sulfate and alcohol.

How to Use Facial Toner

Clean your skin with a cleanser.  Make sure your hands are clean and apply the cleanser in circular motions, as you massage it into your skin.  Clean off all the cleanser with water, leaving no residue behind.  Dry your face gently with a soft clean towel.

Next apply a small amount of toner to a cotton pad and wipe over your face.  Avoid the eyes, and do not rinse off.

Follow with a moisturizer that best matches your skin type.
